Hanging around fresh air and nature are so important for kids health.  This is the next installment in how to teach your kids to LIVE HEALT”H”Y.  Fresh air and nature can help build strong bones, prevent cancer, help children’s mental health, and keep our kids lean.  Read on why…

Our children spend a lot of time indoors,  much more than the previous generation(s) of children. Much of our positive memories of when we were kids probably come from examples of outdoor activities.  I remember, in particular, spending all day at the beach, digging in the sand, hearing the ocean, and the best part…smelling the ocean salt and air on my arms when I returned home.  I never wanted to wash that smell off…!  I think even Kramer, from the Seinfeld television series promoted a perfume that smells like the beach…Yes, I would be the first to buy that one.  Ok, diverting here.  Kids and outdoors.  It sounds so simple, so logical.  Even if we live in an apartment or a townhouse we can think of making nature and fresh air a priority for our kids.

My oldest child is extremely sensitive to nature.  See my previous post on how nature calms her down.  When she was younger we never used timeouts in her bedroom, my daughter had to calm herself down outside.  Even creative play is stimulated by outdoors.  Here is a great list, from the National Wildlife Federation on the 10 reasons why kids need fresh air and nature.  I am sure once you read that list you will be pulled like me to push yourself and your children outside for the afternoon!  It is gorgeous here today where I am, in Pau, France.  Outside as much as possible today, come join us!  What are you doing outside today with your kids?  Would love to know.
